    Interviews - Red Phoenix

Interview with Red Phoenix, who is the webmaster and owner of RCT Station

Interviewer - Jacko

Interviews - Red Phoenix

on 24th May 2002 via e-mail.

Jacko - How hard was it when you first started the site?
Red Phoenix - Not very, actually.  When I took over, there wasn’t a whole lot of stuff to post or work on.

Jacko - What’s the hardest thing for you now running the site?
Red Phoenix - Finding time to work on things.  Contrary to what people may think, webmasters aren’t at their PC and online 24/7.

Jacko - How does running the site affect your personal life, as in free time and stuff?
Red Phoenix - It’s not changed me too much.  I’ve never been very social, so I guess this was the perfect gig for me.

Jacko - What does your family and friends think of you running such a big site?
Red Phoenix - They’re supportive about what I do…guess that’s all one could ask for.

Jacko - What made you start or want to make a RCT website and what other sites have you ran or helped out in any way what so ever?
Red Phoenix - I didn’t start RCT Station…Ogre did a while before I came along.  As for other sites, look at the Ogre’s Network…I help in everything.  However, if you want to know about other RCT sites I’ve helped, there are a few webmasters I helped out by answering questions and helped them with html

Jacko - What do you think is some of the perks of running a major site?
Red Phoenix - I don’t think there are any perks.

Jacko - Also what do you think the main disadvantages of running one too?
Red Phoenix - No time to do other things; always behind on submissions and emails; being bugged by people when you’re busy; This list could go on and on.

Jacko - Which game has made a lasting impression on your life? Like Half-Life or Zelda.
Red Phoenix - Space Invaders (Atari) and Pac-Man (Atari) would probably fit into that category.

Jacko - On average how much time do you spend working on the site and viewing the message boards?
Red Phoenix - I don’t keep track of my hours – I’d probably become depressed if I did.  However, I spend very little time on the message boards.  Maintaining them is what I got my big crew of staff for, and they do a great job.

Jacko - Tell me, how does it feel having such a successful website?
Red Phoenix - Having a successful website isn’t all joyous like people would think.  It’s also rather depressing knowing you’ll never be caught up with submissions and emails.

Jacko - Have you at any times just felt like giving up and moving onto something different?
Red Phoenix - Yeah, this has happened probably five times.

Jacko - Give us a few site statistics like how many Parks and Rides and so on you have.
Red Phoenix - Heh, I don’t keep track of that stuff like some sites do, but I do know that there are 310 tracks on the site, other than what Steve Franks has contributed.

Jacko - You don’t seem to let much out about your personal life, is there any reason for that or are you just shy or only tell people you know and trust?
Red Phoenix - I am shy, but I am very much an introvert by choice.

Jacko - Okay time for some RCT2 questions now.  What you most looking forward to with RCT2?
Red Phoenix - Larger maps, flat rides, scenery designer, and entrance designer (to make those large signs in front of rides) are the main things I want to see.

Jacko - When did you first find out about RCT2 and do you have any inside information? Just between you and me (winks eye at Red)
Red Phoenix - January or February is when I officially knew about RCT II, and no, at this point, there isn’t anything else I know about the game.  I’d much rather be surprised when I get the game than to know EVERY LITTLE DETAIL before the game comes out.  I believe that takes all of the fun and enjoyment out of the game.

Jacko - If you could run another website what would you like to cover the most?
Red Phoenix - Something on Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, or Atlantis.  Those are all things that have interested me over the years.

Jacko - What is your dream job?
Red Phoenix - Can’t say that I have one.

Jacko - Any big plans in store for the site?
Red Phoenix - Nothing too big, I suppose.

Jacko - What do you think of RCT Inc.?
Red Phoenix - One of the top 5 RCT sites on the 'net.

Jacko - Now that screenshots of RCT2 have been released what do you make of them and do you think there is much of a change?
Red Phoenix - I really didn't study them too thoroughly, but was disappointed that there is not much evidence of more flat rides.

Jacko - What other sites, including RCT sites to you visit the most?
Red Phoenix - Google, GameFAQs, Voodoo Extreme, Strategy Planet, and File Planet.

Jacko - Well I like to say thank you for willing to do this interview and just like to ask you if there is any messages you have for everyone in the world who may  reads this?
Red Phoenix - You’re welcome.
